Ms. Nafe has been educated as and has practiced as a landscape
architect and a landscape contractor. Ms. Nafe began her
work experience with the firm of Cashio-Cochran Landscape Architects
of New Orleans, Louisiana where she was involved in such projects
as the Audubon Park Zoo renovations and Louis Armstrong Park. Ms.
Nafe is licensed in the state of Louisiana as a landscape architect,
landscape contractor and horticulturist. She ran her own design/build
firm in Louisiana for over 15 years and has recently joined Lewisites
following Hurricane Katrina. Nancy has experience in AutoCAD 2000
and Microstation.
Ms. Nafe received further training in the art of landscape lighting
through an intensive, hands-on, week long seminar taught by Janet
Lennox Moyer at Rensselaer University. Nancy had two of her New Orleans
gardens selected for the prestigious Secret Garden Tours of 2004 and
2005. She served as a member of the Parks Commission while residing
in Houma, Louisiana; a small community in South Louisiana, but one
with over 27 community parks.
Historical Experience of Ms. Nafe:
Bayou Walk Park
Design of a downtown plaza, both hardscape and planting design in
conjunction with the development of a bayou side boardwalk and maritime
museum. Work also included fountain design, artist selection for sculpture,
site furnishings and outdoor lighting.
Houma, Louisiana
Oncology Center Garden
Design of a garden for the new Oncology Center at Terrrebonne General
Hospital. The garden was designed strolling and seating, as well as,
reflection and viewing from the treatment rooms of the center. The
work included the walkway design, planting design, lighting, selection
of site furnishings and sculpture selection.
Houma, Louisiana
Sculpture Garden & Bird Sanctuary
Landscape Architecture design for a small community sculpture garden
which was also designed to attract birds. The garden was developed
with an interactive sculpture, which was designed in conjunction with
professional sculptors Jenny Authement and Michael Haase. Design included
the development of all hardscape elements and plantings.
Covington, Louisiana
Robichaux Residence
This project included the design, installation and oversight of a
large formal garden. Responsibilities included the design of all aspects
of this garden and the selection and oversight of all contractors
involved. Work included tree trimming and removal, subsurface drainage,
swimming pool, outdoor lighting, brick and flagstone paving, brick
wall, garden gate design and planting design.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Ochsner Residence
Design and installation of a residential garden. Responsibilities
included the design of all aspects of this garden and the selection
of all materials and the oversight of all contractors involved. Work
involved tree removal, re-grading of the site, subsurface drainage,
swimming pool, brick planters and paving, wooden garden gate design,
iron fencing, driveway, and outdoor lighting.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Hess Residence
Design and supervision of the development of a seven acre residential
landscape. The work included a swimming pool and flagstone terrace,
a 200 foot long retaining wall, layout of a boathouse, driveway and
walkway layout and planting design.
Covington, Louisiana
The Longbranch
Design and supervision of the development of a four acre commercial
site. The work included a fountain, dining terrace, planting design,
drainage and irrigation work, and planting design. The client received
the “Best Young Chef” award from James Beard in 2004.
